Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Cobalt Eagle Decoration, Stenciled "STAR POTTERY," Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large stenciled Federal eagle holding arrows and an olive branch in its talons. A banner in the eagle's mouth reads "STAR POTTERY". Freehand cobalt stripes to rim and base. Freehand "3" with dashes at base. Discolored, overfired area on front. Two salt drips and a contact mark to side of jar. Fairly tight, approximately 6" long X-shaped crack on reverse. Tight 8" cross-shaped hairline on opposite side of jar, which is stained.
