Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "NORTON & FENTON / BENNINGTON, VT," circa 1845, highly-ovoid jug with ribbed handle and semi-squared spout, decorated with an artistically-brushed floral design of a large tulip flanked by two smaller tulips, all extending from a curving stem with curled leaves. A skillfully-potted form with excellent decoration and color. Good condition. A 3 1/4" line at shoulder on reverse with other very short lines extending from it. 1 1/2" contact mark near base on side of jug. Burned spot on reverse. Small, shallow chip on top of spout, along with two other small spout nicks. Handle with a small iron ping, minor flake, small worn spot, and a minor C-shaped, in-the-firing line. 1 1/4" chip to bottom edge. Minor nick on side of jug with some very short, star-shaped lines emanating from it.
