Rare Diminutive Polychrome-Glazed Redware Bowl with Mocha Decoration, possibly PA origin, mid 19th century, with rounded foot and tooled rim, the slip-coated surface decorated on the exterior with alternating green and light brown mocha seaweed designs. English-style mocha designs can be found on Pennsylvania redware, some of which was made by John Bell, as well as on Virginia redware made by his brother, Solomon Bell. This example, probably not a Bell piece, is likely of Pennsylvania origin, although similar Whieldon-type glazes can be found piece made by the Moravian potter, Rudolph Christ, of North Carolina. Glaze wear to rim and base. Tight 7/8" hairline from rim. Stacker marks on partially-glazed underside. H 2" ; Diameter 4 3/4".
