Brown-Glazed Stoneware Spaniel Doorstop, NY State or Midwestern origin, mid to late 19th century, molded seated spaniel with locket, covered in a light brownish glaze. The heavy, solid-bodied form suggests this dog was used as a doorstop. Chip to one paw. Dryness and light exfoliation to legs, neck, and reverse base, which may have occurred in the firing. Chipping to base, possibly in-the-firing. Possible small fleck of paint touch-up to top of nose. H 7".
