Outstanding Large-Sized Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Decoration, Dated 1821, New Jersey or New York origin, possibly Troy, NY, approximately four-gallon, bowl-shaped jar with tall collar and applied lug handles, decorated with a large brushed cobalt flower on one side and the date "1821" on the reverse. Exceptional form with bold decoration. Provenance: Sanford Smith, New York, New York. Rim and base chips. Scattered flakes to surface. H 10 3/4" ; Diameter 12".
