Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Drape Decoration, New York City or State, early 19th century, ovoid jar with open loop handles and tooled foot and shoulder, decorated on the front and back with a brushed cobalt drape-like design accented with cobalt spots. Right side of jar slumped slightly in the firing. Rim chips. In-the-firing contact marks under one handle. Numerous base chips. 4 1/2" x 3 1/2" X-shaped surface line under opposite handle, which does not extend through to interior, and likely occurred in the firing. H 11 3/8".
