Large-Sized Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Edgefield, SC origin, second quarter 19th century, highly ovoid jar with applied pocket handles and semi-squared rim with inner ledge designed to hold a lid. Surface covered in a greenish alkaline glaze. Impressive size and form. Chips to rim and one handle. An in-the-firing stone blowout caused a sliver-shaped hole in one side, measuring 1/2" x 1/8". 5" faint vertical hairline at base, possibly in-the-firing. Additional 1 3/4" line in midsection, probably in-the-firing. H 17".
