Four-Gallon Highly Ovoid Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "E S FOX ATHENS," New York State origin, circa 1840, skillfully-thrown, large-sized jug with rotund body and semi-squared spout, decorated with a brushed cobalt flowering plant design bearing two large blossoms. Includes wooden stopper. Outstanding form. Two small stone pings to shoulder, a small stone ping at base on reverse, a 1" glazed-over stone ping below decoration on front. Small base chips. H 15 3/4".
