Very Rare Salt-Glazed Stoneware Match Safe with Sow and Piglets, Incised "F. Korsmeyor Cairo ill. What is Home without a mother 1889," attributed to the Kirkpatrick Pottery, Anna, IL, figure of a reclining sow with incised face suckling four, hand-modeled piglets with incised eyes. An additional piglet stands to the right of the sow. Figures are situated on an oval plinth with course texture resembling dirt, accompanied by a rectangular trough. Incised and cobalt-highlighted advertising stoneware across the base reads "H. Korsmeyor Cairo ill." along with the slogan "What is Home without a mother 1889". A highly unusual example of Anna Pottery, which exemplifies the Kirkpatrick's creativity as ceramic artists. Some restoration to trough, sow, and piglet. Base chip. Length 6 1/2".
