Scarce Four-Gallon "HAMILTON & JONES" Stoneware Crock with Elaborate Freehand Cobalt Decoration, circa 1875, straight-sided jar with applied lug handles and incised lines at midsection, decorated with cobalt stripes, dashes, and a brushed fuschia vine design. Stenciled below "HAMILTON & JONES, / GREENSBORO, / GREEN CO. PA," flanked by vertical cobalt dashes. Additionally stenciled at base with a "4" flanked by stenciled flowers. A finely decorated example of Western PA stoneware.Y-shaped spider line on left side under handle, measuring 5". Loss to one handle, measuring 1 1/2". Some light roughness to surface. H 14 1/2".
