Very Rare Six-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Star and Fuschia Decoration, Stamped "HAMlLTON & CO. / Greensboro, PA," circa 1860, ovoid jar with lug handles and incised bands at midsection, decorated with two large, brushed cobalt stars within incised circles, flanking swags and a cobalt "6". Bold fuschia vine decoration brushed across midsection. Impressed with William Leet Hamilton maker's mark on reverse. Possibly one of the earliest examples of Western PA star decoration known. Small chips to base. H 16".
