Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Slip-Trailed Sunflower Decoration, Stamped "B.C. MILBURN," Alexandria, VA, origin, circa 1850, ovoid jar with rounded rim and tab handles, decorated on the front with a skillfully slip-trailed double sunflower decoration. Leaves of sunflower plant decorated with slip-trailed dots. Shoulder of jar also decorated completely around with a series of slip-trailed dots. Reverse decorated with a wavy line and hanging tassel motif. Excellent color and bold decoration. Loss to one handle. Two small base chips. H 10".
