Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Deer Scene, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT.," circa 1855, straight-sided crock with handles, decorated with a standing, spotted stag surrounded by ground cover, two split-rail fences, and a pine tree. Decoration covers muc of the crock"s front. An excellent example of one of the Nortons" most desirable designs. Includes original lid. Small rim chip with crack extending down right side of front of crock. End of crack barely touches edge of ground decoration. Two small base chips. A few chips to lid. H 11".
