Important Civil War Flag Fragment from Union Admiral David Glasgow Farragut's Flagship, the U.S.S. Hartford, the Union flag fragment belonged to a flag flown from the Hartford during the Battle of Mobile Bay, where on August 5, 1864, Farragut uttered the popular quotation (now paraphrased), "Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!" Includes authenticated Farragut signature. Provenance: First acquired by Dr. Fillinger at the Navy Yard in Philadelphia; Ex-Collection Harold Robinson; later acquired by Sharpsburg Arsenal. Includes a certificate of authenticity from Sharpsburg Arsenal. Expected damage from battle, including small tears. Framed Dimensions: L 42 1/2" ; W 32 1/2".
