This four gallon stoneware crock is decorated with elaborate grape-on-vine stenciling, and reads
1877 PALATINE WVA 4 It was made at the pottery of Boyers & Harden in 1877. (The date is an unusual feature for stenciled stoneware). Freehand cobalt lines decorate the rim and the base of the crock, and cobalt dabs decorate the handle terminals. This is one of the more elaborate Palatine pieces on the market. |
