Six-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "HAMILTON & JONES. / GREENSBORO. / PA.", circa 1875, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with various stenciled designs surrounding the maker's stenciling. Freehand straight and wavy stripes to shoulder. Base with stenciled "6" flanked by flourishes, above a freehand stripe. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Chips to bottom edge of rim on front. A 1 1/4" chip to bottom edge of rim on reverse. Chips to left handle. A 6 1/2" long inverted T-shaped crack from rim, extending approximately 10" horizontally on body of jar.
