Fine Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Watch Spring Decoration, Manhattan, NY or NJ origin, circa 1780, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and narrow opening, decorated on the front and reverse with a slip-trailed cobalt "watch spring" motif, accented with a single spot on its interior. Appealing form and desirable size. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. A 1/2" hole in underside, a shallow chip to exterior of rim, a minor nick on interior of rim, and a small base chip. H 7 3/4".
