Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Albany, NY origin, early 19th century, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed cross or stylized flower blossom. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. The form and decoration of this jar indicate an Albany, NY origin at either the William Capron or Paul Cushman potteries. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Surface cracks throughout exterior, not visible on interior. A few small surface flakes. A chip and wear to exterior of rim. Base chips. Exfoliation to underside and significant exfoliation to interior.
