Extremely Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. & L.E. MEEKER / SUCCASUNNY, NJ", second quarter 19th century, highly-ovoid jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a brushed design of a leafy stem bearing two flower blossoms, one raised and the other drooping. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Succasunny, NJ, now referred to as Succasunna, is located in Morris County's Roxbury Township. This jug is one of a very few signed examples known from this pottery. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with an iron drip at base on reverse.
