Five-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1870, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-squared rim, decorated with a large brushed and slip-trailed design of a flowering vine, applied over slip-coated clay. Slip-trailed "5" at base. Impressed and cobalt-highlighted five-gallon capacity mark to shoulder. Large area of restoration to left side of jar's front. Large area of restoration to rim and shoulder on jar's right side, extending onto reverse.
