Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. BURGER, JR. / ROCHESTER, N.Y.", circa 1885, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a flower with striped blossom and shading to the petals and leaves. Slip-trailed number 2 at shoulder. Brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Very nice condition with two short, glazed-over surface lines at base on reverse, measuring 1 3/4" and 1 1/2", which do not extend through to interior. Some minor surface flakes to side of crock.
