Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Incised Federal Eagle Decoration, Ohio origin, circa 1830, ovoid jar with flattened rim and applied lug handles, decorated with an incised design of a Federal eagle with impressed circular eye and highly-unusual heart-shaped shield. Clay color and form indicate an Ohio origin. Incised stoneware from this state is considered relatively scarce. In-the-firing contact marks to right side of jar's front. A 2" chip to rim on reverse. A 1 1/2" chip to left handle. A 3 1/4" adhered piece of a jar to reverse, a flaw that occurred in the firing. H 14 3/4".
