Very Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bull Decoration, Stamped "J.A. & C.W. UNDERWOOD / FORT EDWARD, NY," circa 1865-1867, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a folky slip-trailed design of a standing bull with long horns and heavily-striped body, standing in a pasture. One of a few examples of Fort Edward stoneware known bearing this figural design. Significant restoration to exfoliation throughout crock, including paint applied to horns and within spots of fry to cobalt. Additional paint visible on handles.
