Scarce One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Fruit Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG. PA," circa 1865, ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded spout, decorated with a nicely-shaded apple or cherry on the front. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. An unusual design for this maker. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with some light staining to base.
