Rare Early Stoneware Jar with Profuse Cobalt Floral Decoration, Virginia origin, possibly Alexandria, circa 1820-1825, approximately two-gallon jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied tab handles, decorated completely around with a Baltimore-style design of heavy swags and daisies. Additional cobalt highlights along the surfaces of the handles. Outstanding, bold decoration with strong color. Virginia stoneware from this time period is difficult to find with such lavish decoration. Heavy chipping to one handle. A chip to opposite handle. Some wear to surface. Heavy, chipping to base.
