Exceedingly Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Umbrella Stand, Stamped "ATHENS / POTTERY. N.Y," Dated 1893, tall cylindrical vessel with thick foot and rim, decorated with a brushed cobalt floral design, underscored by the cobalt script date "September 30, 1893". This piece is the first example of this form and style we have offered. 9 3/4" crack extending up from base and 7 1/2" horizontally. Very large 6" x 4 1/2" piece missing in underside. H 21 1/2".
