Very Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Finely-Incised Floral Decoration, attributed to Chester Webster, Randolph Co., NC, circa 1840, skillfully-turned ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and spout, and ribbed strap handle, decorated on the front with a finely-incised flower having alternating pointed and rounded petals, the pointed petals accented with incised slashes and the rounded petals accented with slashed sections surrounded by incised dots. Incised with a "1" below spout, indicating one gallon. An elegantly-crafted example of Webster School stoneware. Small spout chip. 1 1/8" sliver off side of handle. Small base chips, most of which appear to have occurred in the making, and one shallow, post-firing base chip, measuring 3/8". H 11 3/8".
