Rare Small-Sized Redware Butter Tub with Rope Handles, Stamped "JOHN BELL," circa 1850, wheel-thrown tub with tooled base and shoulder, fitted with arching clay handles at the rim resembling twisted rope. Tub rests on three feet. Surface decorated with sponged manganese over a yellow ground. Impressed with John Bell maker's mark below one handle. Outstanding color and size. Mint condition. H 4 1/8" ; Diameter 6 1/2".
