Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Advertising Jug with Cobalt Pheasant in Tree Decoration, Stamped "R.S. Cushman, / Albany, N.Y.," circa 1860, straight-sided jug with sloping shoulder and squared spout, decorated with a large slip-trailed cobalt pheasant with spotted breast, crest, and wattle, perched in the branch of a dead tree. Tree depicted with shaded edge, flanked by shrubbery. Some spots of fry to decoration. Horizontal, in-the-making lines and crack at base. Small stone ping on front. H 16 1/2".
