Fine Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Freehand Cobalt Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1880, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, brush-decorated with tulip emanating from a dramatically-curved stem with graduated leaves. An additional smaller tulip appears to the right of this design. Shoulder with straight freehand stripe. Base with freehand straight and wavy stripe decoration. Superb decoration and desirable size. Provenance: From a fifty year West Virginia collection. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with some light staining. H 8 1/8".
