Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Floral Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, possibly David Morgan, circa 1800, highly ovoid jug with heavily-tooled spout, decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a stylized flower hanging from a leafy stem. A related design seen on a signed "DAVID MORGAN / NEW YORK" jar, sold in Crocker Farm, Inc.'s July 18 , 2015 auction, lot 192, identifies this potter as a possible maker. A short crack on underside forming an approximately 11" sealed vertical Y-shaped crack on reverse. Clay residue to shoulder. Scratches and staining to surface. Base chips. A 1" restored base chip. A few minor, in-the-firing wrinkles in clay to base area. H 13 1/2".
