Fine Two-Gallon Salt-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Dramatic Glaze Runs, Stamped "J.A.C," John A. Craven, Randolph County, NC, mid 19th century, ovoid jar with applied strap handle and downward-angled rim, the surface covered in a heavy salt glaze featuring visually-appealing runs descending from the rim area. Shoulder impressed with the maker's mark of John Anderson Craven (1824-1859). Small drilled hole in underside. A long curving crack from rim on front. A thin, approximately 4" crack from rim on reverse. A 1 1/8" hairline to one handle. H 11 1/4".
