Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Letart, WV Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, tapered jar with semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, featuring the stenciled "W.T. HAVMAN. / DEALER IN / DRY / GOODS, / GROCERIES, / NOTIONS, / HATS, / BOOTS, / SHOES, / HARDWARE / LETART. W. VA." Stenciled floral motif to the right of the advertising. Freehand stripe decoration to shoulder and base. Includes tin lid. Provenance: From a fifty year West Virginia collection. A large reglued section to base with two short lines extending from it. A curved spider crack at base on side of jar. Traces of old blue paint to surface. Chips to interior of rim. Some mottling to surface. H 10 1/4".
