Fine Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Leaf Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a boldly-brushed leaf of uncommon scale. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Strong decoration with exceptional color. 3/4" chip to interior rim. Light fry to cobalt. A 3" faint y-shaped hairline to underside. H 12 3/4".
