Extremely Rare Blue-Glazed Stoneware Face Jug with Applied Snake, Signed and Dated "Edwin Meaders / 5-11-95," Cleveland, GA origin, 1995, ovoid jug with hand-molded facial features included large ears, pupil-less eyes with incised lashes, nose with carved nostrils, closed mouth, and broad chin. Surface covered in a bright blue glaze with green highlights to the eyes. Jug includes a hand-modeled and applied snake with green striping, rarely seen in this potter's face jugs. Though Edwin Meaders occasionally decorated his well-known roosters with applied snakes, in our research we could not find another face jug featuring this treatment. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 10 3/4".
