Rare Blue-Glazed Stoneware Face Jug, Stamped "B.B. CRAIG / VALE, N.C.," early fourth quarter 20th century, ovoid jug with flared spout, decorated with a hand-modeled and applied clay face including bulging eyes set within curved lids, eyebrows with incised details, semi-squared ears, nose, and open mouth with broken china teeth. Surface covered in a rare teal blue glaze over a brownish ground. Underside impressed with Burlon B. Craig maker's mark. The first Craig face jug in this color that we have offered. An earlier navy-blue-glazed face jug by this potter was sold in Crocker Farm's July 20, 2019 auction, lot 333. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 10 1/4".
