Exceptional Stoneware Face Jug with Rare Glaze, Stamped "BROWN POTTERY," Arden, NC, circa 1930, squat-shaped, ovoid jug with hand-modeled and applied clay face including bulging, pierced eyes placed within elliptical lids, delicate eyebrows, small ears with pierced interiors, a snub nose with carved nostrils, and open mouth with broken china teeth. Underside stamped with small Brown Pottery maker's mark. This face jug features an extraordinary high-gloss, olive-brown glaze that differs markedly from the typical Albany slip used at this pottery. It is the first Brown Pottery face jug glazed in this manner that we have offered. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 6".
