Fine Four-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Stamped "DH," Daniel Hartsoe, Lincoln County, NC, circa 1875, ovoid jar with arched strap handles, heavily-tooled shoulder, and thin, semi-rounded rim, the surface covered in a streaky olive-green alkaline glaze with glass runs from the handles. Traces of rutile to glass runs. Impressed "D.H" and "4" on handles. Significant restoration to one handle. Lesser restoration to other handle. A small hole in underside with a thin 4 3/8" crack extending from it, continuing 4" up base. A 5/8" base chip adjacent to a minor base chip. Three thin cracks from rim, measuring approximately 5", 4", and 3". A filled 7/8" rim chip. H 15".
