Extremely Rare Miniature Albany-Slip-Glazed Stoneware Batter Pail with Gold-Slip Floral Decoration, attributed to the Hissong Family, Cassville, PA, fourth quarter 19th century, ovoid form with small pouring spout, handle at base on reverse, and rounded clay tabs applied at the shoulder, pierced to hold a wire bail handle. Surface covered in a reddish-brown Albany slip glaze and decorated with brushed flowering vine design in gold-colored slip. Exceptional form and size, featuring the Hissongs' desirable light-over-dark slip treatment. Lacking wire handle. One pierced tab with a chip and minor nick as well as a crack through piercing, possibly indicating a 3/4" reglued piece to tab. Minor chips to rim/spout. A minuscule nick to inner rim for lid. Some wear to handle at base. H 5".
