Scarce Half-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jug, Stamped "JCM," attributed to Daniel Seagle, Lincoln County, NC, circa 1840, ovoid jug with tooled spout, impressed at the shoulder with "JCM" merchant's mark below a half-gallon capacity mark. Surface covered in an olive-green alkaline glaze. Desirable size and mark. As stated in the research of North Carolina collectors and historians, Tom and Lana Kleeberg, pieces bearing a "JCM" mark were made by Daniel Seagle for John Michal or his father, Johann Conrad Michal, who were members of a prominent Lincoln County, NC family, merchants, and associates of the Seagles. Excellent condition with minor wear and minor residue to surface. H 9 1/4".
