Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Bold Cobalt Double Bird Decoration, Stamped "S. HART / FULTON," NY State origin, circa 1860, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of crossed birds atop a looping flourish. Slip-trailed looping "3" to left of bird. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Classic Hart family design and unusually heavy application of cobalt. A thin 2 1/4" crack above one handle. Some staining, primarily to reverse. A glazed-over iron ping to reverse. Water glass staining to interior. H 10 3/8".
