Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Hearts Decoration, Stamped "GEDDES.N.Y.," William H. Farrar and Company, Geddes, NY, circa 1860, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of three conjoined hearts within spotted borders. Slip-trailed "2" to shoulder. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Very nice condition with a small chip to interior of rim, areas of in-the-firing discoloration to surface, and some light bubbling to cobalt. H 9 1/2".
