Scarce Molded Yellowware Teapot, Stamped "FIRE PROOF / J.E. JEFFORDS & CO. / Phila. / Patented June 28 1870," circa 1870s, ovoid form with relief circular patterning to the spout and handle, decorated on two sides with a relief classical soldier's bust within an elaborate border. J.E. Jeffords maker's mark on underside. Includes original domed lid, impressed "K" on underside. A matching example resides in the collection of the Philadelphia, Museum of Art. Teapot with chips to spout, a small chip to interior of rim, and worn chips to the two flanges on interior of rim, which hold the lid in place. Lid with a large chip and minor nick to its rim. H 7".
