Four-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Crock with Flowering Urn Motif, Stamped "F.B. NORTON & CO. / WORCESTER MASS.," circa 1870, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a cross-hatched urn or basket with open handles, brimming with leaves, a fanned foliate motif, two flowers, and dotted trails. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A 2 1/2" x 2" area of exfoliation on reverse, including a faint 6 1/2" line extending from shoulder to midsection on reverse, not visible on interior. Areas of staining throughout. A minor chip to interior of rim. An in-the-firing iron ping to shoulder on side of crock. Minor base chips. H 11 1/4".
