Very Rare Stoneware Flowerpot with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. STADDEN / SUMMIT CO., O.," OH origin, mid 19th century, flare-rimmed form with attached saucer, brush-decorated with a large tulip plant. Impressed with J. Stadden maker's mark on side of pot, below a two-gallon capacity mark. Relatively few cobalt-decorated stoneware flowerpots from the state of Ohio are known, this example made exceptionally rare by the inclusion of a maker's mark. Provenance: Robert and Nancy Treichler Collection, Tallmadge, OH. Shallow chips to interior of rim. A small glazed-over chip to exterior of rim. Pot itself in good condition with chips to interior of rim and very minor glazed-over chip to exterior of rim. Edge of saucer with curving lines and small chips, including some coloring as well as a 2 1/4" x 5/8" colored section that may indicate filled damage. This colored section includes a small Y-shaped line descending from it onto underside. H 9".
