Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Howe & Clark, Athens, NY, circa 1805-1813, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a stylized slip-trailed floral motif featuring graduated circular trails to the blossom. One side includes an incised circular the center of the blossom. Provenance: Warren F. Hartmann Collection. Heavy chipping to rim and base. A V-shaped crack on underside forming a top-to-bottom Y-shaped crack extending through decoration on one side. Staining to majority of jar. Exfoliation to interior base. An X-shaped surface line to interior, not visible on exterior. H 11 3/4".
