Fine One-Gallon Vertical-Handled Stoneware Jar with Impressed Drape-and-Tassel Decoration, Stamped "COMMERAWS / STONEWARE," Corlears Hook, Manhattan, NY, circa 1800, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and open vertical handles, decorated on the front and reverse with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted drape-and-tassel motif. Front impressed with the stamp, "COMMERAW.S" and reverse with impressed with the stamp, "STONEWARE," both brushed over with a stripe of cobalt slip. Additional cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Desirable vertical-handled form and exceptional color. Provenance: Warren F. Hartmann Collection. A 1 1/4" thin diagonal crack from rim. Small rim chips. A 1 1/2" Y-shaped hairline on underside, extending 3" up base. Scattered exfoliation to left of "COMMERAW.S" stamp, extending onto side of jar. Two minor base chips. H 9 3/4".
