Very Rare Miniature Stoneware Presentation Pitcher with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Inscribed "Catherine Lemon / 1826 / C L," Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1826, thin-walled, ovoid pitcher with footed base, brush-decorated with a large, multi-blossomed tulip plant ascending the front. Incised on reverse with the cobalt-highlighted name and date, "Catherine Lemon / 1826." Incised below the handle with the cobalt-highlighted initials, "C L." Brushed horizontal tulip motif around collar. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Among the earliest dated Baltimore stoneware presentation pieces known, this work features a desirable form, strong decoration, and exceptional size. Professionally restored handle. Otherwise excellent condition with a minor rim chip on reverse. H 4 3/8".
