Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Jackson Courthouse, WV Advertising, Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1875, tapered jar with rounded "wax sealer" rim, featuring the stenciled cobalt advertising, "MATHES & PARSONS. / DEALERS IN / FANCY & STAPLE / GROCERIES. / JACKSON C.H. W. VA." Freehand stripe decoration above and below. Includes tin canning lid. Provenance: From a fifty-year West Virginia collection. Shallow chipping around interior of rim and inner wax sealer rim. Additionally, a 2" chipped section to inner wax sealer rim. A thin 1 3/8" crack on underside, continuing 1 3/4" up base on front. H 10".
