Very Rare Small-Sized Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Ravenswood, WV Advertising, attributed to T.F. Reppert, Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1880, cylindrical jar with inner "wax sealer" rim, featuring the stenciled advertising, "H.L. VANMATRE. / & CO. / DRY GOODS AND / GROCERIES, / [QUE]EN'S AND STON. / RAVENSWOOD. W. V." Stenciled tulip motifs at shoulder. Stenciled block designs at base. Desirable size and form, featuring rarely-seen Ravenswood, West Virginia advertising with excellent coverage of stenciling over the jar's front. Includes tin lid. Provenance: From a fifty-year West Virginia collection. Excellent condition with a faint 1/2" line from rim on front, a tiny nick to inner wax sealer rim, and a brown drip of Albany slip on reverse. H 6 1/2".
